#11 Pushing the Panic- CoVid 19

Post by Commander » Sat, 14 Mar 20, 17:49 pm

I am not a medical professional, nor do I play one on TV (or the web, in today's world). I have no sage advice of a medical nature to hand out to the denizens who occasionally gather here. For that, I would steer you to the The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or your individual doctor.

What I am concerned about are those people pushing the panic. Not just the crazy individuals buying up the toilet paper and hand sanitizer, but those on youtube and elsewhere pushing a daily narrative about "how the world is going to change". The world always is changing, so unless you think this is a second black plague and we are going to enter the second dark ages, exploiting the panic isn't going to make things better.

I watched a video from a homesteader youtuber. This gentleman is located in the Pacific Northwest and was concerned because of all the lock downs going on in the area that his daily routine was going to be changed? I'm not sure I follow, but most homesteaders I have known have started that life style to get "off the grid" and be self supportive. Other than how it may affect the kidlings schooling, there should be only a minor change in day to day affairs and one would think he would be in the cat birds seat. But he is online vlogging, pushing the panic in my opinion. Just sit back, wash your hands and grab a :~beer:. If symptoms appear, contact your health professional.

To all who visit and are members here, try to relax, take stock of your situation and be prudent in your actions, Stockpiling extra rolls will probably only mean that you will not have to buy any for a while. Not stockpiling extra rolls and being in the worst case position (quarantined for up to a month, shall we say) just means you'll have to use a rag to wash your toosh. So be safe, don't take any unnecessary risks, and chill.

Well Betty and Keira has spring break last week, but Betty spent most of it grading when she wasn't trying to catch up on rest. Keira spent most of hers catching up on school stuff as well. I worked in the farm shop on some projects and we went to Shiner last Thursday nite thru Tuesday afternoon to work on chopping pastures and spend some time with my mom. She was upset that my sister's boys didn't come up for spring break. Mid week last week the school declared they'd be out this week for coronavirus, so we stayed till Tuesday afternoon. I got done chopping so the farm looks great, just need some good solid regular rains that we've been missing so far this year. Nanny wanted to go shopping in Victoria (nearest big town about 100,000 people, an hour away) but we shot down that idea... She wouldn't take "stay home" for an answer so Betty and Keira took her shopping and to a lil craft show in Hallettsville. I think she finally started to get it when they started cancelling everything. They ate out a couple times too. I was working in the fields so I didn't go. We went to church Sunday at Yoakum, which is maybe 50 people on a good day, so I don't know what plans they're making to deal with this. The church we go to is about 200-250 and they've already announced that everything is cancelled but Sunday morning services, they're gonna hand out baggies with self contained juice and wafers for communion, and gave lists of online services for those who are immunocompromised and should stay home. I don't know what the smaller church at Yoakum will do... There's a lot of elderly folks and they're at the biggest risk.

Mom has COPD and she's been hospitalized so she needs to stay home. She talks to her brother Ronel, who's got liver problems, needs a transplant (which he's never gonna get at 70+ years old) and is on dialysis every other day, and he and his wife and first grade granddaughter and son who works at Whataburger are running all over town shipping and eating out and all that like any other day, and they live in Victoria, which is a poorer town and like San Antonio, more disease prone... Not bright, but I think at this point Ronel knows his days are numbered anyway and is kinda like "it is what it is, oh well"...

SO, this week we're catching up on housework and stuff and staying home. Keira's doing her online drivers Ed and online college classes as well as whatever the school has/is coming up with.

Later! OL J R

The thing I see coming that is DEFINITELY going to be a change is the economic fallout from this mess... While nobody is complaining TOO much about having another week of spring break (so far) other than the toilet paper shortage, the real economic fallout hasn't even started yet. You can't just shut down the country except "essential services" for weeks or months without triggering a major recession or outright depression... Schools closing is an inconvenience, but folks off the job or not getting paid (like wait staff paid on tips, sales people, etc) is going to have MAJOR impacts economically in short order, and lasting impacts that will linger a LONG time!

Our economy is built on "perpetual growth" and is so fragile even a "bad Christmas shopping season" can throw things off kilter... What is locking down entire cities for weeks or longer gonna do? Now they're talking about "guaranteed minimum income" where every adult in the US is gonna get a $1,000/month check from the gubmint... How's that gonna work? Who's gonna pay for that, and how long until flooding the economy with scrip based on no real value just leads to runaway inflation? It SOUNDS good to Joe Shmoe and will likely buy his vote, but such things aren't sustainable for any length of time... Not that people can understand that anymore I think. It's crazy.

Look at how much Florida and the other big college spring break destinations are already losing... How many gazillion bucks are not being made, not being earned, not being produced, not being spent, because of lockdowns and stay at home orders? Sure there's SOME winners; toilet paper and hand sanitizer companies should be making out like bandits, online shopping and delivery services like Amazon are probly booming, but what about all the local restaurants, shopping centers, stores, day cares, etc etc etc... For every "winner" in this there's probly 2 dozen losers, or more. Sure some stuff CAN and honestly SHOULD be done from home, like schooling, BUT those jobs are in the minority... Like my brother and SIL and their jobs at the county drainage district barn... There's been talk of shutting down, now gubner Abbott supposedly just put Texas on two weeks lockdown... So how's that gonna work? How many gazillion bucks a day in lost wages, lost productivity, list sales, lost taxes, extra costs, extra benefits, can we sustain? Not much I bet.

I figure in a week or two when the bean counters start figuring what all this is gonna cost, they're gonna reverse themselves so fast it'll make your head spin... They'll still push "social distancing" and stuff but be telling everyone "go back to work and spend lots of money" to kick the economy going again... Basically it'll cost them less to have more people to treat and some die than to keep the economy in standby mode for who knows how long...

In the end, economics will rule the day...

The other thing is, how much gubmint "kneejerk overreaction" and gubmint overreach are people gonna take? IMHO they're already overreaching and making things worse, how long till TSHTF?

Like Betty said, the school sent a letter to remind parents "hey, this is NOT an extra week of spring break, this is "stay home away from the other kids till this passes", so DON'T have groups of kids getting together just because they're out of school". Makes sense but people don't get that. We're staying put, well I went to the store and Betty went to get stuff yesterday including our prescriptions, but that's it. May travel between farms this weekend, though we're debating that now.

Closing the malls and schools and making restaurants take-out only makes sense, but closing the beach when there's only a half dozen people there (granted they need to minimize the spring breakers clogging the beaches elbow to elbow, and the dance clubs and bars, but when the gubmint starts ordering EVERYTHING shut down, they overreaching and making it worse IMHO...
Like Betty said, "if everybody would just stay home a week or two it'd be over" but that's not what most folks are doing.

At some point there's gonna be kick back against it. Later! OL J R

You would have to talk to the alter ego regarding the political aspects of this whole thing. As for me, I believe it has all been overblown from the beginning. That is not to say be lax in your social behaviors (no licking idols), but I do believe that in our free market economy, someone with a knowledge and understanding can create a financial windfall for himself and will endeavor to do so.

I have also heard that they are having some marked success with a previous known drug called Chloroquine, a medication used to prevent and to treat malaria. Sounds to me like it contains some form of quinine in it, so my current regime is to continue with my daily dosing of Gin & Tonics. :>>>>:X:

We all know the true reason for the hoo hah and overblown media reaction to this.

The issue is that at this point, Trump's hands are tied. He has to play the cards dealt to him and see this hand through. It may be true that a lot of people are seeing through the ploy to dethrone the king, but in the end if it causes the government to react quicker than under Obama's handling of the H1N1 Flu (Fact-Check: Obama Waited Until 'Millions' Infected and 1000 Dead in U.S. Before Declaring H1N1 National Emergency Then aren't all Americans, wait... the entire world better off?

Well, my heard from my wife's niece this morning... She's just about to have a baby any day, hospital already said "only one adult visitor allowed". Yesterday they cancelled school until May 1 in Indiana, so the other two are at home, which isn't what she wanted with a newborn in the house... Even a few hours at school helps...

She works for Fastenal as a factory rep (works in the factory to do onsite orders and stuff) and she heard from a reputable source (retired general working for the factory as a honcho, with ties to active duty friends still in) that it's "likely" we'll have a two week nationwide mandatory shut down with stay home orders and national guard outside grocery stores telling you when you can go in and what you can and can't buy...

As of yesterday, the United States is the leader in confirmed cases of the virus. Do not fall for hype regarding this. I would have to assume that the reason we are showing many more cases is due to us testing more people, of course having a larger population than a bunch of other countries, except China, may have a large influence on it.

Hope you all are hunkered down and doing as well as can be expected.

Fear and Panic for A Purpose – The Coronavirus Evolves Into “The Blue Plague”…
The “Blue Plague” is an intentional effort by various interests to create fear-porn amid the American population by intentionally hyping a mass hysteria about the coronavirus. In many ways the Blue Plague is exponentially more dangerous than COVID-19 itself.
Earlier today, The New York Times became the epicenter of the Blue Plague by stating people in hospitals throughout the city were dying, as desperately under-prepared and under-equipped doctors and nurses could not find ventilators for thousands of arriving patients in a state of panic. This was/is incitement at its worst.
Blue doctors and Blue nurses, aligned with the political resistance ef[f]ort, transmitted videos claiming desperate and dying patients, using the term “apocalyptic surge“…
Of course, all of the emphasis is false, everyone is getting treated, and so far the pandemic has created no more of a crisis than a high-flu season. However, the panic such fear-porn creates can deliver a self-fulfilling outcome. Immediately, the downstream media, specifically CNN, take the script and begin amplifying the panic story-line.

This unfortunate gross-media manipulation is exactly what caused task force member Dr. Birx to step to the microphones today and state the activity on the ground does not match the fear-porn models that media are hyping.
