Yup... when they started doing that, that was probably the beginning of what we call today "PC"...

It's also CYA because people sued the media for saying "so and so was arrested for such-n-such crime", which is technically correct, but the lawyers argued (successfully) that being arrested and being convicted were two different things, and the reporting implied that because they were arrested they were guilty (though subsequently obviously unconvicted, which doesn't mean they WEREN'T guilty, just that they were not CONVICTED of said charges), and that the reporting of their poor clients arrest had damaged them, stigmatized them...

Hence the media started using the word "alleged" to refer to ALL reports of arrests and usually they keep it up even once convicted, rather than face possible lawsuits if the case is subsequently overturned...

Sorta like how they've started referring to people the cops are looking for as "persons of interest"... which IIRC that started during the case of the Atlanta abortion clinic bomber back in the 90's... They were looking for a guy on surveillance tape or some such, but they didn't really have a lot more to go on, and were afraid that they'd be sued if they called him a "suspect", so they kicked in CYA and called him a "person of interest" that they wanted to "interview"... IOW, find the guy, look for evidence and chinks in his story, get search warrants, and go from there trying to obtain more evidence and build a case.

It's all basically semantics, but in our sue-happy culture, it's all that's needed...

Later! OL J R :)

PS. That guy that did the video killing should get the chair...

He did one final good deed to make up for his stupidity, he took his own life, saving the tax payers the cost of a trail and expense of keeping him in jail for the rest of his life.

This guy took no responsibility for anything that happened in his life, blaming his girlfriend, the local casino and of course the government, for all of his troubles. Except for the gambling debt, I've dealt with much of what he had to in life. It's a part of being an adult, deal with adversity and solve it, or move on. Too many snowflakes want to be taken care of.

I just saw part of this on TV yesterday, blurb reporting as usual-- gotta make room for important stuff like the "national conversation" with that freak nutcase Bruce Jenner... or whatever the hell it calls itself now (as if anybody even friggin' cares). Typical media...

Anyway, they said something about this dude having been a teen crisis counselor or something... I just shook my head and thought, "for pity's sake, if that's the case then he should have had the training in order to handle his problems or at least seek help for them... instead he kills people to "get back" and whomever or whatever he blames for his problems"... Seems like another libtard to me...

Can't hack life? Nobody'll bail you out?? Go on a killing spree-- that'll teach 'em!!!

Morons and losers...

The problem is with progressives is they just do the feel good stuff, and nothing really gets resolved.

Nothing to eat? No money? Instead of resolving the issue by making them work, here is some money or food. When that runs out, the person is right back in the same position, but now looking for the handout. Help them find a job, then even if they lose the job, they will try and find another if no hand out is forthcoming.
