...Shock Cords.

I am certain we are all familiar with the rubber shock cords Estes uses in their kits. I just replaced two of them, One in my Photon Disruptor and one in my Photon Probe. The rubber (or whatever material it is) had degraded near the knots connecting the shock cord to the nose cone and also at the knot attaching the cord to the Kevlar leader I had added to both rockets. The main line was still strong, but within an inch of both ends the cord would snap if a medium force tug was applied. I don't have any tension measuring devices or I would be more specific, but feel the tug was a lot less than most of the power kicks from the ejection charges. As I was replacing them, I wondered what I could use the old cords for since they were not suitable for use in rocketry and I have a large pile of them now since I don't use the supplied ones anymore.

Soooo....

Let's have a contest :!: The person who comes up with the best use of these Estes Shock Cords wins a T- Shirt :!: Winner shall be chosen by me on November 15, 2016 from all ideas posted in this thread. All decisions final; winning entry shall be based on originality and utility of idea.

Good Luck

Use a peg loom to weave them into trivets.

I guess I gave to much ingenuity to those model rocketeers out there. Either that or everyone hates these things soooooo.... much  that re-purposing them is anathema to the cause.

I just toss them as soon as I open the kit bag... sometimes measure them first, multiply by three, and then cut a length of 1/4 inch elastic to replace them in the build...

Other than that IMHO they're pretty much worthless...

Later! OL J R :)

You could make some real nice "Russian Harps" with them.

:!: And we have a Winner :!:

Here Kitty , kitty

Yes, Cat Toy is the best idea in my opinion.

I was intrigued by the trivet idea, but it appeared to have some drawbacks in that the cordage would melt upon application of a hot pan.

I used one a couple of years ago to hang a catnip mouse. it took about 30 minutes for the furball to finally chew through it and take the mouse off....
